Start before you’re ready

This is advice I’ve failed to take for many years. Agonising over the small details (what should I call the blog? What theme should I use? How about the colour palette?). Happily, I managed to set this blog up in under half an hour and have resisted thus far the temptation to tweak.

Because, in a way these musings are an opportunity for me to reflect on where I’ve gone wrong, how I’ve been singularly successful in failing to succeed in areas that hold the most meaning for me (more on that later). And for each post, unless I get swept away with inspiration, I’m limiting myself to 15 minutes.

In the same spirit, this morning, I stuck a video of myself on Facebook reading the opening of my 2nd novel. The videoing, the mis-en-scene, set-dressing, editing and uploading all in under 90 minutes. And this wasn’t just any opening, this novel begins with a sex scene of all things. Talk about the discomfort of making yourself visible. In any case, it’s good to get some of my work out there. Novels are such large, unwieldy things that grow in the dark and in the silence like mushrooms. A little crack of light can only be a good thing.

Amazon Deliveries NOT received: a hammock I though about for 6 weeks during the balmy early days of lockdown only for the weather to turn once I bit the bullet. There was an option on their site to contact the courier. I can just imagine the conversation…”but I NEED my hammock NOW!”

Quotes

Your past, your mistakes… even your failures do not in any way limit who you are and what is possible for you now.
